The Department of Government and Public Administration at the University of Macau welcomes applications for open academic staff positions. The Department prizes both innovative research and passionate teaching as mutually reinforcing elements of a successful academic career. Members of our diverse and growing faculty conduct research across the fields of international relations and public administration and have published widely in major academic journals and presses. Our undergraduate major is consistently ranked as one of the most popular majors at the University of Macau, while our postgraduate programs in International Relations and Public Administration have trained generations of civil servants, policy professionals, and academics in Macau and throughout China.
Research
The University of Macau is strongly committed to supporting faculty scholarship and offers considerable resources to faculty at all ranks to aid in the completion of their research projects. New faculty members in the Department of Government and Public Administration are eligible to apply for one-year startup research grants of up to MOP 100,000. Multi-year research grants are also available for larger projects. The University also provides funding for conference travel as well as for teaching and learning enhancement. Additionally, the Social Science Research Center on Contemporary China and the newly inaugurated Institute of Global and Public Affairs provide opportunities for faculty to showcase their research and network with scholars from around the world.
Faculty members are able to take advantage of Macau’s central location in East Asia to easily travel throughout the region for research and conferences. Hong Kong is accessible by an hour-long ferry ride and Guangzhou by a 45-minute train ride. Taipei is accessible by a 90-minute flight, Shanghai by a 2 ½-hour flight and Beijing, Seoul, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur are all reachable within 4 hours.
Remuneration and Benefits
The University of Macau offers faculty members competitive salary and benefits, including participation in the University pension and health insurance plans as well as annual bonuses.
