The study of politics is fundamentally the study of communities—where their interests come from and how they negotiate competing interests. At the Department of Government and Public Administration at the University of Macau, we train students in the skills and knowledge they need to become informed community members, to rigorously analyze political phenomena, and to think critically about the world around them. We take full advantage of our unique location in Macau, one of the world’s great crossroads, which provides our students with front-row seats for observing the complex dynamics of globalization unfolding throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

The Department offers the Bachelor of Social Science in Government and Public Administration. We also offer three master’s degrees for advanced postgraduate students in International Relations and Public Policy, Public Administration, and European Studies. Advanced students wishing to pursue more sustained research may apply for the Doctor of Philosophy in Public Administration or in Political Science. We take special pride in our long tradition of training professionals who have gone on to distinguished civil service careers in Macau, Hong Kong and mainland China.
