The Department of Government and Public Administration, FSS, UM, hosted the first “Student Research Symposium” for postgraduate students

The Department of Government and Public Administration (DGPA) in the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) at the University of Macau (UM) successfully held the PhD and MSS Student Research Symposium on March 15, 2023. As the first research symposium event of its kind in the history of DGPA, it featured 14 postgraduate students from the Department presenting their ongoing research in either oral presentations or conference posters. Reflecting the academic diversity of the Department, the students’ research topics covered a wide spectrum of issues relevant to Macao, mainland China, and the world, including international security, pandemic policies, environmental protection, and cultural diplomacy.

Professor Richard Weixing HU, the Dean of FSS, provided opening remarks at the event, emphasizing the symposium’s significance as a mechanism not only for enhancing students’ learning experiences but also for fostering dialogue and collaboration among department members and cultivating a sense of community within FSS/DGPA.

The event was well-attended by both undergraduate and postgraduate students and academic staff from DGPA and other departments in FSS. The presenters, panel discussants, and audience members actively engaged in a lively discussion, which continued even during the coffee break and poster presentation sessions. Mr. Mengdie ZHOU, a PhD student majoring in Political Science and one of the presenters, expressed his honor at being the first to present his research findings at the event. He appreciated the opportunity to participate in this remarkable event.
