DGPA Successfully Hosts UM-ZJU Summer Camp

The Department of Government and Public Administration (DGPA), Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS), University of Macau (UM), successfully hosted the “UM-ZJU Summer Camp” from 18 to 20 August 2024.

DGPA hosted the Summer Camp with the aim of enhancing inter-university communication in the fields of public administration and international relations between the University of Macau and Zhejiang University (ZJU). It was designed to provide the participants from ZJU with an in-depth understanding of UM’s learning/research environment as well as the unique history and culture of Macau.

At the opening ceremony of the Summer Camp, Prof. Song Weiqing, former Head of DGPA, warmly welcomed to the ZJU students to UM and expressed his sincere wish for the program’s success.

The Summer Camp featured a rich assortment of activities, including exchanges between students from the two universities, lectures by DGPA professors, and immersive campus tours. Through these engaging sessions, the participants experienced different teaching styles and gained deeper insights into the scholarly pursuits of the UM faculties. The campus tours allowed the students to appreciate the natural and cultural charm of UM, as well as gain an understanding of the institution’s unique residential college system and its educational philosophy. Additionally, the Summer Camp included a visit to the China and Portuguese-speaking Countries Business Cooperation Service Platform Complex, where the students gained firsthand knowledge of Macau’s pivotal role as a platform for cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.

The highlight of the Summer Camp was the signing of two important agreements – the “Cooperation Agreement on the Establishment of Dual Degree Programmes between UM and ZJU” and the “Student Exchange Agreement between the School of Public Affairs of ZJU and the Faculty of Social Sciences of UM”. These agreements demonstrate the strong commitment by both universities to promote educational cooperation and exchanges of outstanding students, marking a significant milestone in the long-term and successful partnerships between UM and ZJU. The signing of the two agreements marks an important step forward in the two universities’ steadfast commitment to advancing educational excellence and contributing to the global higher education landscape.

By the end of the Summer Camp, the visiting students from ZJU highly praised UM as an international and pluralistic university with robust research capabilities and expressed their appreciation for the wonderful experience they had.

The successful hosting of the UM-ZJU Summer Camp enhanced the participants’ understanding of UM and Macau while laying a solid foundation for future collaboration between the two universities as they work together toward their shared goal of developing world-class universities.
