Dr. Duan was educated at Jinan University in Guangzhou (B.Law in International Politics and B.A in English) and University of Macau (M.A. in International Relations and Ph.D. in Political Science). She was research fellow at Tianda Institute (Hong Kong) in 2021, intern-researcher at Center for China and Globalization (Beijing) in 2015 and legislative assistant at National Grange(Washington, DC) in 2013. Currently, she is a postdoctoral fellow at the Centre for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area studies, University of Macau. She is also a member of the International Political Science Association (IPSA) and Secretary General of the HK International Strategic Research Institute (ISRI). Her research interests focus on Security Norms and Peace in East Asia, China and East Asian International Relation, and Hong Kong, Macau and Greater China Studies. During doctoral period, Dr. Duan completed research of Security Norms and Peace in East Asia. This research focuses on the surprisingly longtime negative peace in East Asia since 1979 and calls for a new analytic framework that combines the constructivist theory of international relations, traditional peace studies, and norm approach to study how non-material structure, particularly the security norms, influences regional peace.
